A note on meals: trekking on Mount Rinjani can be demanding so we provide plenty of food and drink and a minimum of three litres of bottled water per person per day. Our menus are varied and comprise fresh, local produce. Dishes can include meat and vegetable curries, nasi campur (rice with chicken, egg, vegetables, tempeh and tofu), gado gado (Indonesian vegetable salad with eggs, tofu and peanut sauce), chicken satay, seasonal vegetable dishes and fresh fruit such as pineapple, watermelon, bananas, snakefruit and rambutan. Snacks are plentiful and include sweet and savoury biscuits and pisang goreng (fried bananas) with honey. In addition to water we provide our guests with a selection of tea and coffee, soft drinks and beer. We would like to share the local cuisine with you, however if you would prefer more Western-style food please let us know. We also understand and respect any dietary restrictions you may have, please advise us and we will be happy to accommodate you.

What you should bring

As with all mountain environments the weather can change quickly on Mount Rinjani. The summit in particular can be extremely cold and windy and even in the dry season you should be prepared for rain. The temperature at the summit routinely drops to 5°C while on the banks of Lake Segara Anak the temperature can reach a warmer 17°C. To ensure you have a comfortable experience we recommend you bring the following:

  • Good hiking shoes
  • A head torch
  • Waterproof clothes (particularly a waterproof jacket)
  • Warm clothes (for example thermal underwear)
  • Beanie, scarf and gloves
  • Sun hat, sun screen and sunglasses
  • Bathers (if you plan to swim in the hot springs)
  • A couple of changes of clothes
  • A small towel
  • hiking sticks, if desired

Please note that you will need to carry your personal belongings in a small backpack. During your trek you can store the rest of your luggage at a secure location at our office in Senaru.
